Music & Image 10X10 Music Video Program Submissions | NIFCO

32nd Atlantic Film Festival calls for applications to the Music & Image 10X10 Music Video Program and Digital Compilation and doubles award winnings ? September 13-16

Produced by the Atlantic Film Festival, the 9th annual Music & Image Conference (M&I)?scheduled for Sept. 13-16 in Halifax as part of the 32nd annual Atlantic Film Festival?is currently accepting applications for two of its programs: the Digital Compilation and 10 X 10 Music Video Mentorship Program.

The 10 X 10 Music Video Mentorship Program offers ten Atlantic Canadian filmmakers and ten musicians the chance to collaborate to make a music video. Over the five-day program, selected artists and filmmakers of all levels learn the fundamentals of contemporary music video-making, from the evolution of the band?s visual concept to the final edit. Upon completion, final video cuts screen during the Atlantic Film Festival before fans, delegates and industry professionals from around the world.

?I?m excited to return and build on the success we had with last year?s program,? says 10 X 10 music video program facilitator Kyle Davison, winner of multiple MMVAs and the 2011 JUNO directing award for Video of the Year. ?It?s always fun to work with tomorrow?s filmmakers and musicians to bring their ideas to the screen.?

Back for its second year is the RBC 10 X 10 Emerging Artist Award, presented to the winning filmmaker and musician duo. The cash prize has doubled to $10,000 this year, making it one of the largest awards of its kind available to emerging artists in the region.

?Atlantic Canada has always been home to some of the country?s most colourful and imaginative artists,? said Lori Smith, Manager of Public Affairs at RBC. ?This competition is about showcasing that for the rest of the world to see. And we?re very proud to be a part of it all.?

The Music & Image Digital Compilation, sponsored by Universal Music Canada, is a promotional tool used to expose East Coast musical talent to the international screen arts industries. Distributed at the Atlantic Film Festival and East Coast Music Week, the compilation has also travelled to Los Angeles for film/TV trade missions, to Texas for the South By Southwest Festival and to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics.

?We?re always working to bolster the careers and visibility of Atlantic Canadian talent,? says Andrea Dawson Thomas, Director of the Music & Image Conference. ?For eight years, the M&I Digital Compilation has created unique opportunities for these artists. And this year, we?re excited to bring it back.?
