After the engagement in April, there was some confusion surrounding if and how we would have an engagement party.? My parents went through a pretty terrible divorce about 7 years ago and this is the first time they?ve had to work together (and constructively) since then.? Would we have a joint engagement party in New York?? Would Matt?s parents throw us a party in Philadelphia?? Would they? all be separate or would it be one big occasion?? There was some deliberation and finally my mom made the executive decision to throw us something small at the house in New York?it would be for our NY friends and family on my mom?s side.
The party was this past Saturday and it was amazing!? We had such a great turnout and with such an outpouring of love and support, it was almost overwhelming.? My future in-laws came in from Philadelphia just for the night and my future sister-in-law and her awesome boyfriend came in from LA to celebrate with us.
My best friends from high school came?Lauren and her husband flew in from Miami, Lyndsey changed her schedule at the hospital in order to be there, and Jess helped us figure out that we hadn?t spent time all together like that in almost 10 years.
All of my mom?s wonderful friends, who have loved and supported me like family, came in for the night.? Lynn was the official photographer of the evening, Robin brought delicious Danny Macaroons for everyone (her son is Danny!), and ?Aunt? Debbie brought specially made cupcakes for us.? My mom?s friend from high school did the catering through her company iEat Green?a locally sourced, mostly organic catering company.? Thank you to Norman and Cathy for lending us your ridiculous sound system?it was so much more fun listening to Rhianna through good speakers.? And a major thank you to my mom?s boyfriend, Jeff, and my mom?s jack-of-all-trades, Michael Sterz, for making the house incredibly beautiful and extra special for this event.
Thank you to my NY friends who came?Amanda and Sebastian, Crissy and Steve, Nil, and the Goodman Family (it?s been way too long since we?ve all been able to be in one place!).? Thank you to our two Philly friends who came, Erin and Tori.? It was so great to spend time with all of you and such a pleasure to have you there with Matt and I.? Thank you to my friends who couldn?t make it but were there in spirit: Courtney and Chad, Fallyn, Marisa and Greg, Rachel, and Bahar.? The love that all of you show me on a regular basis is enough to keep me going for a lifetime.? I?m so lucky to have such great people in my life.
And of course, I can?t wrap this up without thanking my mom and my brothers.? My mom put so much time/effort/love into throwing this party for us and we are forever grateful for that.? Both Matt and I are very blessed to have mother?s who understand our uniqueness: we?re quirky, creative, and determined to do the wedding our own way.? You have been endlessly supportive and easy to co-plan with.? I don?t know what I?d do without you.? And to my brothers, it means so much to me that you guys are there with me through all of this.? The hardest part about moving away from home is not getting to see you as much as we used to and every moment like this that we get to share together is precious.? Even though my youngest brother, Jared Evan, couldn?t be there on Saturday night (he had a gig in the Hamptons), he was certainly on our playlist that night and I can?t wait to hear the song that he is writing for us for the wedding!
I know many of you who don?t know me might be bored with this incredibly personalized post, but I?m a big believer in gratitude.? You absolutely get back every bit of positivity and love that you put out into the world and a wedding is a great way to harness all of that great energy.? So looking forward to March 30, 2013 and all of the love that it will take us to get there!
