Back in late September, we reported how Zakk Wylde was competing in ESPN?s Baseball Tonight theme song challenge. And after making it into competition?s final week, Wylde defeated Grace & The Nocturnals, with fans choosing the Black Label Society frontman?s rendition of the theme song as the best via poll.
Wylde, a longtime baseball fan, was thrilled to win the theme song competition, saying the following bits (which we combined into one quote) to ESPN?Front Row:
?It was really cool to watch baseball on ESPN and hear my family and friends say ?Hey, that?s your song they?re playing.?
I won this thing, and it was all about my love for baseball and my love for music,
To the ESPN family and the Black Label Society family, keep bleeding black. Thanks for your vote. For all the other artists, it?s all music.?
Wylde also talked with ESPN Front Row about his respect for the fellow artists who recorded theme songs (including jazz guitarist John Pizarrelli), his admiration for legendary baseball catcher Thurman Munson, and the similarities between musicians and athletes. You can read the rest of ESPN Front Row?s profile on Wylde online, while you can watch the guitarist performing his rendition of the theme song after the jump.
