Realtors illegaly sell river beds in Mayurbhanj district

Balasore- With the increased activities of illegal land conversion for construction purposes,the realtors are also been plotting and selling of riverbed in Mayurbhanj district. Owing to such activities the?district administration has dispatched an ?inquiry apart from just banning construction activities on that patch of land.

There have?been?various builders who have allegedly acquired large areas of the riverbed in?Bainjuli which is a tributary of Budhabalanga in Damodarpur mauza along Baripada-Jharpokharia road.

Despite the ban on the construction activities on the ?patch of land, builders in good terms with officials are still selling and plotting the riverbed. After various investigations, it was revealed that a builder was erecting a boundary wall on the?plot number 1216 in Damodarpur mauza which was before a?nullah of Bainjuli river.

The crafty builder had carefully incorporated at least 15 decimal of land from the plot with plot number 1215. It was alleged by the local residents that despite ?the local tehsildar being informed by them earlier about the illegal acquisition, followed by a report submission citing the construction as illegal, there were seldom actions taken by the tehsildar.

Similarly, there is also an under construction flat being constructed on the river bed of Budhabalanga near Astia bridge. The probe regarding the illegal activities was ordered by an official followed by a petition filed by the villagers residing on the?upper adjoining areas of the tributary. They further alleged that they faced severe floods during rainy season due to the construction on the river beds which obstructed the water flow from the river.

The civil society members stated that apart from the construction on the bed of the??Bainjuli river, the realtors have also sold the riverbed of?Jarali and Sarali tributaries. At least 70 acres of the riverbed was sold by the builders after the illegal conversion of the land.
